NFP Awareness Week – July 21st – 27th

What a gift to belong to a Church that recognizes and affirms the gift of natural family planning!  Jesus taught us that He came so that we might have joy and life and this is powerfully confirmed in the Church’s teaching on sexuality.  July 21st-27th is NFP Awareness Week.  I would encourage you all to learn more about the truth and beauty of NFP and to share the good news with others!

Learn more about the gift of NFP at Kristin’s blog, Living the Sacrament. To learn more about NFP awareness week, and NFP resources within the Des Moines diocese, visit our website HERE.

Iowans for Life Banquet – July 27th

Join us for the Iowans for Life Banquet on Saturday, July 27, at 6:00 pm at Holiday Inn Airport, 6111 Fleur Drive, Des Moines.  The dinner will be $25/person.

The guest speaker will be Bobby Schindler (brother of Terri Schiavo). Bobby Schindler is the Co-Executive Director of the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network which works to protect the lives of the medically vulnerable and disabled from the threat of euthanasia.

Following the tragic death of his sister, Terri, via imposed dehydration and starvation, Bobby gave us his teaching job at Tampa Catholic High School and became a full-time pro-life and disability rights advocate. Today Bobby assists families in need of legal action to prevent their loved ones from health care rationing and food and water removal. Bobby and the Schindler family continue to advocate for persons with disabilities and he works tirelessly to put an end to the growing pro-death mentality that is plaguing our nation.

Please RSVP by July 22 to 515-255-4113 or

Inspirational – Korean Pastor Fighting Epidemic of Abandoned Babies With Anonymous ‘Baby Box’

Lee Jong-rak is a Korean pastor in South Korea and the creator of the Baby Box. His special baby box is there to collect abandoned babies who are physically or mentally handicapped or are just unwanted by their mothers. Hundreds of unwanted babies are abandoned on the side of the street in South Korea every year.

The story of this man and his baby box is reaching the entire world in a 72-minute documentary called “The Drop Box” by a young 22-year-old, Brian Ivie. The documentary just won the “Best of Festival” Jubilee Award & “The Best Sanctity of Life” film award at the 8th annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival this past February.
