November/December Prolife Events

Advent Ideas

As you prepare your heart and home for Christmas, please consider giving a special birthday present to Jesus by supporting pregnant women and their unborn babies by donating to a pro-life charity during your year-end giving. You can even buy giftcards or provide for other needs at crisis pregnancy clinics, like InnerVisions Medical Clinic. And if money is not an option right now, give of your time by volunteering at any of the below!

A Few Ideas For You:

InnerVisions Medical Clinic:  A medical crisis pregnancy clinic on the frontlines giving hope and information to women in difficult situations. See their website HERE.

Gabriel Project:  The Gabriel Project offers practical help for women and their babies, providing for baby needs and encouraging the mother so that she will be able to keep her baby.  The volunteer “angels” offer the encouraging message of the angel Gabriel to Mary at the announcement of her unexpected pregnancy: “Rejoice! Fear not!” See their website HERE.

Ruth Harbor:  Ruth Harbor is a home to support young women who are alone and facing unplanned pregnancies by providing housing, education, counseling, health care, parenting training or adoption assistance, spiritual support and more for the duration of their pregnancies. See their website HERE.

Iowans for Life: Iowans for L.I.F.E. (Life is for everyone) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting innocent human life from conception until natural death by informing, influencing, and inspiring society. They are very active in educating others about pro-life issues and lead a pilgrimage to the March for Life each year. See their website HERE.

Iowa Right to Life:  Through grass roots lobbying, educational efforts and public-awareness programs, Iowa Right to Life is on the front lines, working with thousands of Pro-lifers across Iowa to promote the value of human life. See their website HERE.

This is not an exhaustive list at all – this is only a few of the local pro-life organizations (there are many more amazing local and national pro-life organizations which need support!  Please find one way this Advent to help and encourage those who work so tirelessly on pro-life issues (all of you know how beautiful, but exhausting the work can be). Thank you for supporting those who are changing and saving lives!

Gabriel Project Needs Volunteers

The Gabriel Project is in need of volunteers.  It is a Catholic ministry that helps pregnant women of any faith. You can volunteer by answering the phone line from your home or cell phone, or by helping women one on one on your own time.  An informational meeting will take place in January.  If interested, please call Marilyn at 515-707-8642 to learn more. This is such a beautiful, practical ministry – please consider volunteering even a few hours a month!

Christmas Shopping

Another thing to think about while Christmas shopping is to buy yourself or others a fashionable pro-life t-shirt that will be practical and start people thinking in a positive way.

My favorite pro-life t-shirts I found were by Rock for Life. The designs are ones that young people will probably enjoy, like “I love babies” (with ‘love’ drawn as a heart), “human rights for all,”  “let them live,” and “adoption saves lives.” See those options in t-shirts, sweatshirts, and maternity shirts HERE. And if you have a different style than mine, just search online for pro-life t-shirts and you will find many websites.

Multitasking is a beautiful thing, so get a present that will keep on giving  🙂

Local Events
Prayer Vigil – November 26th

I just learned of another regular prayer vigil at the Planned Parenthood on East Army Post Road, so I thought I would share. It sounds like John Rozycki of St. Pius leads this opportunity.

The dinner is going to be pasta, salad, bread, and dessert. Dinner will be followed by a 75-minute show of some excellent singers performing Broadway hits and a few Advent songs. The singers are all professionals and will put on a very entertaining show. They will be backed up by a professional combo.

Iowa Judge Says Webcam Abortions Back On

Iowans for Life: A judge ruled this morning that Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will be allowed to continue abortions via webcam in Iowa.

Polk County District Judge Karen Romano ordered a temporary stay on the decision by the Iowa Board of Medicine. The Board had banned the use of Planned Parenthood’s telemed abortion system, due to a physician not being present for the abortion procedure.

Pro-life supporters objected to telemed abortion because after the procedure the mother was left alone to deliver her dead child at home, and also contend with any complications on her own. In her decision Judge Romano indicated disregard for the risks to the mother’s health in a webcam abortion.

The issue of telemed abortion will be argued further in court.  Planned Parenthood has requested that Romano permanently overturn the Iowa Board of Medicine’s decision. Keep praying!

Four More Iowa Clinics to Close!

Iowa Right to Life shared that Planned Parenthood of the Heartland is closing four of their Iowa clinics in the next month.

“Ankeny, Fort Dodge, Mount Pleasant and Washington, Iowa, will see the abortion giant leave their town,” stated Jenifer Bowen, Executive Director of Iowa Right to Life.  “This means that in the last year and a half we have seen TEN clinics close for good.  We know that not only are the lives of the unborn safer when they leave, but so are the lives of the women seeking their services.”

“We could not be experiencing this unprecedented activity were in not for the faithful supporters of LIFE in these cities.  For example, Ankeny, once a webcam abortion location, has seen a steady decrease of business in recent years.  This has been one of the most active 40 Days for Life prayer vigil sites in Iowa.”

40 Days for Life Recap

40 Days for Life is a ministry that has amazing results as people pray and peacefully witness for life. During the Fall session 5 more abortion workers quit their jobs, 9 abortion centers that were sites of 40 Days for Life campaigns have closed, and 709 babies that we know of were saved from abortion!

A total of 8,245 lives have been saved during the past six years of the 40 Days for Life campaign. This makes such a difference! Find a way to volunteer, organize, and give!

Other important news for 40 Days for Life:

A generous donor has offered to match up to $102,000 of donations, however much they are given before Tuesday, November 26th. Right now they still have 1/3 of that to go. Please consider making a one-time tax-deductible gift HERE before November 26th.

 Easy Fundraising Ideas

Thanks to St. Anthony, St. Francis, St. Boniface, and All Saints churches who are sponsoring a Baby Bottle Fundraiser for InnerVisions HealthCare.

Consider involving your entire church by sponsoring a Baby Bottle Fundraiser on a given Sunday!  The clinic purchases the bottles and you distribute them to families in your church who will take them home, fill them with their pocket change or desired donation and return them to the church (or clinic).  We would be happy to be there that weekend to help promote the event and talk with your congregation about this life-saving ministry.  Promotional posters are available and if you want us to present a 2 minute message at the church services we are happy to do that too.

Contact, Laura Holms at 515-440-2273 or A 10-15 day lead time needed to order bottles.

BUCKS FOR BABIES is another way to support InnerVisions! To get a free long-sleeve “Empower Women – Save Babies” t-shirt all you have to do is pledge $10 or more per month.  For more information, call Alicia 515-440-2273 or

Pope Francis Homily

Pope Francis warned in a recent homily about the dangers of secularism. He also mentions that today still “many, many people make human sacrifices and there are laws that protect them.” I’m not 100% sure what the Holy Father was implying, but my thoughts immediately went to legal abortion all over the world. Please pray for our Pope and that many people’s hearts would be open and touched by his words!

Full homily notes and YouTube video about it HERE.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for all you do!

God bless,
Rachel  : )

P.S. This is a pro-life issue too. Many of you know about Mary’s Meals, an organization that feeds over 800,000 children each day. The founder of Mary’s Meals, Magnus MacFarlane, has visited Des Moines numerous times and so many Catholics in Des Moines know of and support his work.

Please watch Child31, a movie about the work of Mary’s Meals, with your family. It’s 30 minutes and now available on YouTube HERE. This is a vital part of who we are as pro-lifers. Thank you for watching and sharing with family and friends!
