February Pro-Life Events

January was a great month. Hundreds of thousands of people participated in the March for Life in Washington D.C. and the Walk for Life West Coast. Pope Francis even tweeted his support for the marchers (see HERE for more details). At home, the 2nd annual Midwest March for Life also went well. Hopefully it will grow every year! Thank you to those who braved the cold to participate!

Below are more pro-life events coming up in February and March. Please come to and promote the Rally for Life on February 17th at St. Anthony’s and the Capitol Building. Come for part or all. Please also send a super quick prepared e-mail to your U.S. Senators about the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act (see the highlighted yellow section below)! There is a lot going on!

Thank you for making a difference! I am always inspired by the dedication of local pro-lifers. Thanks for all you do and God bless you!

Vision of Life:  InnerVision Healthcare’s Annual Banquet – June 5th

InnerVisions HealthCare is excited to announce their “Vision of Life: Innervisions HealthCare’s Annual Banquet” on June 5, 2014. The special guest speaker will be Typhanie Mahlstadt.

Typhanie walked into the clinic last summer, simply to pick up a Bucks for Baby t-shirt. She saw a scared young woman waiting for her appointment… and immediately, she was taken back 13 years ago to when she herself was a young woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. Typhanie knew immediately that God brought her to InnerVisions HealthCare for a reason.
Her story of hope in the midst of crisis, fear and uncertainty is like the story of the phoenix rising out of the ashes of despair to soar on the wings of hope! Typhanie’s family shares in her grace and joy and welcome you to hear their story.

Great Reviews for Pro-Life Movie “Gimme Shelter”

“Gimme Shelter” just came out and it looks powerful! It’s based on a true story about a young girl in a very difficult situation who finds herself pregnant. Through the intervention of several kind people she is able to find help and healing for her and her unborn baby.

With big name stars like Vanessa Hudgens, Brendan Fraser, and James Earl Jones this should be really interesting. See the trailer HERE.

Pro-Life Issues ICC Will Work On In Iowa Legislature

  • Regulation of abortion clinics. Iowa has no licensing or inspection of abortion clinics.
  • Reviving a bill that would restrict the shackling of pregnant inmates. The ICC has supported this bill in the past to help protect the health of the mother and child. The bill was passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee last year and then referred back to the committee at the end of the session.
  • Iowa is one of about 10 states where the mother cannot sue a negligent person for the death of her unborn baby, and we are working to change that.
  • Developing a state tax credit for adoption.
HHS Mandate Update

ICC was pleased that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor temporarily blocked the HHS contraceptive mandate from going into effect on Jan. 1 for the Little Sisters of the Poor religious order. The Obama Administration responded that the mandate is essential to women’s health and that the mandate did not impose a substantial burden. Stay tuned.

No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act Is Passed By U.S. House – Now to the Senate!

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, first introduced in 2010, would place in permanent law a consistent policy that the federal government should not use tax dollars to support or promote elective abortion.

Please send a quick, prepared e-mail to your U.S. Senators HERE asking them to support this bill!

Finally, please feel free to share our newsletters and ask others to join our legislative network. You can find the entire list of our legislative concerns at www.iowacatholicconference.org. We have a Facebook page and you can find us on Twitter at @iacatholicconf.

American Family Organization –
How Your Girl Scout Cookies Support Planned Parenthood

Tim Wildmon, President of American Family Association writes:

“As Girl Scouts USA begins its annual cookie sale, I am asking you to consider what the organization supports with all that dough.

Christy Volanski is the mother of two former Girl Scouts who created the website Speak Now Girl Scouts to expose the link between the group and the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Recently, Christy wrote a very telling article for LifeSiteNews, What Every Pro-Lifer Needs to Know About The Girl Scouts’ Link to Planned Parenthood. See it HERE.

As Christy clearly outlines in her article, “GSUSA will try to assure you that all the proceeds from cookie sales stay local to benefit girls in their community.” What they fail to mention is that GSUSA makes millions of dollars each year through licensing fees paid by the baker. It’s money like this that goes to promote the Girl Scout’s partnership with Planned Parenthood.

Just this month, the Girl Scouts came under fire for tweeting a link to a news story and video that praises pro-abortion Texas state senator Wendy Davis (D-Texas.)

It’s hard to say no to those little girls in the green and brown sashes, but buying Girl Scout cookies serves only to further facilitate a very pro-abortion agenda.

When they knock on your door, just say, “No, thank you.” No explanation is needed.”

Interesting Response to the New Healthcare Law

Samaritan Ministries is providing an option for Christian families to provide for their families healthcare needs without supporting the anti-life parts of the new healthcare law. This is a very interesting response and as of this December, 28,000 families are involved.

See their website for a short introductory video HERE, and for more information about what it is and how it works click HERE.

More Pope Francis Pro-Life Quotes
Courtesy of Karen Quiner

“Human life must always be defended from its beginning in the womb and must be recognized as a gift of God that guarantees the future of humanity.”

-Pope Francis, Letter to Brazilian families for National Family Week, August 6, 2013

“The moral problem of abortion is of a pre-religious nature because the genetic code is written in a person at the moment of conception. A human being is there. I separate the topic of abortion from any specifically religious notions. It is a scientific problem. Not to allow the further development of a being which already has all the genetic code of a human being is not ethical. The right to life is the first among human rights. To abort a child is to kill someone who cannot defend himself.”

-Pope Francis (Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio)

“Every child that isn’t born, but is unjustly condemned to be aborted, has the face of Jesus Christ, has the face of the Lord.”

-Pope Francis, addressing members of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, September 20, 2013

Bonus quote, also courtesy of Karen:

“It seems to me clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime.”

– Gandhi

  1. Thanks for the plug. We’re very blessed that God is using Samaritan Ministries and the other health care sharing ministries as pro-life options for health care.
