Closing Rally for 40 Days for Life – May 6th

Please join us for the 40 Days for Life Closing Rally on Tuesday, May 6th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. It will be at Woodland Hills Church of Christ (2484 SE 68th Street, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327).

The Closing Rally will be a celebration of the good reports that happened during the Spring 40 Days for Life prayer vigil with local and national testimonies. Over 545 babies were saved from abortion thanks to the peaceful, prayerful witness of people like you.

The topic will be the new Vitae Family Care Clinic in West Des Moines and the ability to reverse the abortion pill RU-486 if caught in time.  For more information about the Vitae Family Clinic, see their website HERE. Vitae is a Latin word that means “for life,” and that value is the foundation of the practice. Dr. Gregory McKernan is a DO providing a pro-life, NFP-only family practice with OB. New Pro-Family Movie: Moms’ Night Out – May 9th

From the makers of pro-life hit “October Baby,” comes a pro-family movie that I have only heard good things about from so many sources. It has a star-studded cast of Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Trace Adkins, and Patricia Heaton and looks amazing! I laughed out loud even just watching the trailer. For anyone who is in the middle of family life with small children or remembers what that was like, I believe you will enjoy this movie. It comes out in theaters on Mother’s Day weekend – check it out!

Ruth Harbor Walk for Life – May 10th

Ruth Harbor is a home located in Des Moines that provides a safe place where young women who are facing unplanned pregnancies can stay and find the support they need. Ruth Harbor provides housing, education, counseling, health care, parenting training or adoption assistance, spiritual support and more for the duration of their pregnancies.

The Ruth Harbor Walk for Life is a walk where you can show support and fundraise for the home and for the young women and their babies who stay there. Pro-Life Giving In Honor of Mother’s Day

In honor of Mother’s Day, you may want to consider giving to a pro-life organization that helps mothers in crisis to have the support they need to choose life for their babies.

I have heard that InnerVisions Healthcare (a medical crisis pregnancy clinic) is doing a special activity for Mother’s Day. If you make a donation, they will send your special “Mom” a card with plantable seed paper, which will grow beautiful wildflowers when planted, along with a note indicating your gift in their honor. Simply make a donation on their website by clicking the link below – make sure to include in the “notes” section of their online form who you are honoring and their mailing address! Or you can email InnerVisions at Laura@InnerVisionsHealthCare.

You can donate to InnerVisions HealthCare HERE.

Friends of GiGi’s Playhouse Golf Outing – May 17th

GiGi’s Playhouse is a wonderful organization that “provides free programs that are educational and therapeutic in nature to individuals with Down syndrome from birth through adulthood, their families and the community.” I see this as a definite pro-life issue because we need to be supporting and valuing people who have Down’s Syndrome (they are such amazing people)!

The GiGi’s Playhouse in Urbandale will have a golf fundraiser on Saturday, May 17th, from 8 am – 3 pm at the Copper Creek Golf Course in Pleasant Hill. There will be an 8:00 am shotgun start, a raffle, prizes, a silent auction, and more. The proceeds will go to GiGi’s Playhouse in town.

Natural Family Planning Classes – June 7th

The next three-part series of classes on the sympto-thermal method of natural family planning is scheduled to begin Saturday, June 7th, from 2-4:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Urbandale. Cost is a one-time fee of $140 for all course materials, classes, one year of consultation with certified instructors, plus a one-year subscription to Family Foundations magazine. CCL also offers two supplementary classes designed to help couples with natural family planning during post-partum and pre-menopause. The sympto-thermal method of natural family planning uses a cross-checking system based on three signs of fertility and is 99 percent effective in postponing pregnancy when used properly. It is also highly effective in helping couples of low fertility achieve pregnancy.

For more information on the sympto-thermal method of natural family planning, visit the Couple to Couple League website HERE.

The Pill Kills National Day of Action – June 7th

This is my first time hearing about this, but June 7th is The Pill Kills National Day of Action. They would like people to peacefully and prayerfully share information about the negative health effects associated with the pill outside a local Planned Parenthood or similar abortion/contraception business or pharmacy that distributes the pill.

For information about the effects of the pill, see their flyer HERE.

To participate via social media:

– “Like” The Pill Kills Facebook Page HERE to keep up to date with all the latest news.
– Tweet and use the #ThePillKills hash tag on your social media posts and comments leading up to and especially on June 7th.

– Write, post, and blog: As many articles appear praising the pill as June 7th approaches, write articles and letters to the editor telling the truth about artificial contraception and submit it for publication. Their organization will have press releases that can be sent to local media as June 7th approaches and there are many articles on their Facebook page to give you ideas. There are also links to recent headlines and studies exposing problems with the pill and other contraceptives.

Sponsors: Pro-Life Wisconsin, STOPP of Dallas, California Right to Life Education Fund, Frontline Pregnancy Centers/Expectant Mother Care, Save the 1, Operation Rescue, Pro-life Waco, Human Life Alliance, AMEN – Abortion Must End Now, Movement for a Better America, Children of God for Life, Pro-Life Champions, Defenders of the Defenseless, Focus Pregnancy Help Center, Pharmacists for Life International, and Servants of Christ for Life.

Good News – Adoption Tax Credit Passes!

“The Iowa Senate just passed the Adoption Tax Credit Bill 48-0!  It now goes to Governor Branstad for his signature.

This bill, spearheaded by Rep. Megan Hess, will go a long way in helping parents with adoption expenses as it provides a $2,500 state tax credit.

A special thank you to each of you that contacted your legislators throughout the session to ensure this passage!” (From Iowa Right to Life).

Rock for Life Internship Opportunity

Rock for Life is an organization that “promotes human rights for all people, born and preborn, by engaging the culture through music and education. Rock for Life’s message is the personhood message that each and every human being is a person from his or her biological beginning.”

Rock for Life is seeking interns who would travel to many Christian Music Festivals in the Midwest and on the East Coast throughout the summer. The interns would have the opportunity to “see a lot of great bands, meet a lot of great people, camp, see the countryside, see young people convert to the pro-life truth and even see babies lives saved from abortion!” Internships could be for the full summer, one week, or anything in between.

This would be a great opportunity for pro-life students who would like to share their passion for life as well as gain valuable experience in “pro-life educating, recruitment, merchandising, management, social media, blogging, photography, video and many other skills.”

For more details about the internship and how to apply, please see their website HERE or e-mail

They also have a great webstore with many positive, pro-life messages on shirts or merchandise (see HERE). My favorite is the “I love babies” shirt.

April now Abortion Recovery Month in Iowa

Last month, Governor Terry Branstad proclaimed April as Abortion Recovery Month in Iowa! Women deserve better than abortion. Special thanks to Governor Branstad!

Pope Francis on Our “Throwaway Culture”

“Human life is sacred and inviolable. Every civil right is based on the recognition of the first, fundamental right, the right to life, which is not subject to any condition, of a qualitative, economic, and certainly not of an ideological nature.

Just as the commandment,  ‘Thou shalt not kill’ places a clear limit guaranteeing the value of human life, today we must also say ‘No to an economy of exclusion and inequality.’

This economy kills… Human beings are themselves considered consumer goods to be used and then discarded.

We have created a ‘throwaway’ culture which is now spreading. In this way, life too is discarded.”

– Pope Francis speaking to the Italian Movement for Life recently.
