Birdies for Charity Fundraiser to Benefit Iowa Right to Life – July 7-13

From Iowa Right to Life:  The John Deere Classic and Birdies for Charity are raising money for local charities. You can help support the Iowa Right to Life Education Fund by making a pledge for the number of birdies that will be made at this year’s John Deere Classic PGA golf tournament on July 7-13th. Iowa Right to Life hopes to use the funds to support their information booth at Iowa State Fair to share the pro-life message with thousands.

Simply pledge one cent or more for every birdie you think will be made during the tournament. Last year, there were 2,142 birdies, so a one-cent donation would have amounted to $21.42 for the Iowa Right to Life Education Fund. In addition to pledging, you have the opportunity to guess the number of birdies made. If you guess the correct number you could win a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.

To pledge, send your Birdies for Charity pledge form (get it HERE) to: Iowa Right to Life Education Fund, 1500 Illinois Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50314. Iowa Right to Life’s Bird number is 1761. See their website for more details HERE

Breaking News! Supreme Court Gives Hobby Lobby Victory!

From Operation Rescue: The U.S. Supreme issued a 5-4 ruling today in support of Hobby Lobby’s objections to being forced to pay for abortion and contraception through Obamacare. The Court ruled that closely held corporations such as Hobby Lobby, are exempt from the Obamacare mandates that violate their religious freedoms. This is a huge win for religious freedom and people of conscience!

Iowa Webcam Abortion Situation

Here is an article by Operation Rescue on how “Polk County Judge Jeffery Farrell is currently considering a suit brought by Planned Parenthood of the Heartland against the Iowa Board of Medicine for new rules that ban the webcam abortion system of dispensing abortion pills that was developed in Iowa. A ruling is expected soon.” See the article HERE. Keep praying!

Continued Decrease in Webcam Abortions

From Iowa Right to Life:  Iowa Right to Life learned today that another Des Moines metro location has stopped selling webcam abortions!  The Susan Knapp Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (located by Drake University) no longer offers them at their clinic.  They are now an “abortion referral” location.  This marks the second metro Planned Parenthood in recent weeks to stop offering webcam abortions.  A dozen clinics throughout Iowa have closed in the past two years, including those in Red Oak and Creston, scheduled to close next week.

Gabriel Project Update

Gabriel Project, which provides practical help for women who choose life for their babies, just celebrated its 10th anniversary in Des Moines. The Gabriel Project averages about one call for help per week… about 52 women helped each year. They do wonderful work, and they are busy.

More “angel” volunteers are needed to work one-on-one with the moms to drop off cribs, car seats, diapers, etc. (this is scheduled according to the volunteer’s personal time available) and volunteers are also needed to answer the phone (this is done in the volunteer’s own home). If you would like more information about volunteering please contact Marilyn Sharp at dsharpie@mchsi.com.

News – Priests for Life Training for Clergy

Priests for Life has a new project, which sounds great! They are starting the John Cardinal O’ Connor Institute for the Pro-Life Training of the Clergy. The idea is to “train priests and deacons on how to be dynamic preachers of the Gospel of Life… and help end the injustice of legalized abortion-on-demand in America.”

To accomplish this Priests for Life plans to send out priests and pastoral associates to dioceses across the country where they will stay for an extended time to help train priests and deacons and help carry out pro-life work in the diocese. They also plan to bring priests and deacons to their headquarters in Staten Island and train them how to preach on pro-life topics, energize Catholics, and get involved in pro-life work. The project begins this month in the Colorado Springs diocese where Priests for Life has been invited by Bishop, Most Reverend Michael Sheridan. If you would like to support this work, go HERE.

InnerVisions – Volunteers Needed

InnerVisions HealthCare is in need of volunteer nurses and receptionists. Even four hours a week can make a huge difference! Also, volunteers are needed to help with special events and projects!
