Iowa State Fair – August 7th-17th

“Nothing compares” to the Iowa State Fair. If you will be attending, please stop by the Iowans for LIFE and Iowa Right to Life booths in the Varied Industries Building to encourage the volunteers and to educate yourself on an unborn baby’s development and pro-life issues.

If you would like to volunteer for the Iowans for LIFE booth (and get a free ticket to the Fair that day!) please contact Lisa Bourne at iowansforlife@msn.com. Volunteer shifts are for just three hours. The shift times are 9 am-12 pm, 12-3 pm, 3-6 pm, and 6-9 pm. They would like to have three people during every shift. A few shifts still have openings, so contact them soon!

Americans United for Life – Sign Petition to Stop the Freedom of Choice Act

“The pro-abortion “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) is back, under a misleading new name. We have not faced a bill with such destructive potential in years.

With more pro-life laws passed in the last three years than in the entire previous decade, and after suffering a significant loss in the Hobby Lobby case, President Obama and his Big Abortion allies in the U.S. Senate are now brazenly trying to destroy the efforts that together we have worked for years to create.

The “Women’s Health Protection Act” is destructive to women and their unborn children and is FOCA under a different name. This bill would eliminate:

·  Abortion bans (such as 5 month limits or sex-selection bans)

·  Health and safety standards for abortion clinics

·  Ultrasound requirements

·  Laws limiting state funding for abortion facilities

Please take 1 minute to sign the petition HERE! Thank you!”

Pray to End the Continued Threats Against Religious Freedom

While the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of religious liberty in the Hobby Lobby case, the Senate attempted to overthrow the decision immediately after. The attempt was unsuccessful, but it is a reminder that we are never totally finished. Please keep praying for the protection of religious freedom for for-profit and non-profit organizations. The Priests the Life case continues to move on the legal track also, and that will be one of the biggest cases for religious non-profit groups. Thank you for your prayers!

Another Iowa Planned Parenthood Location Stops Webcam Abortions

From Iowa Right to Life: “Late this afternoon, we learned that another Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has stopped offering webcam abortions! Cedar Rapids has now become an “abortion referral” location. This marks the third clinic in the last few weeks to stop dangerous, in-house webcam abortions. Twelve clinic have shut their doors for good in the past two years. Fourteen Planned Parenthoods remain, with nine still performing abortions.”

Project Rachel Update

Project Rachel is a post-abortion ministry that Bishop Pates would like to become active in our diocese. Currently there is one volunteer leader, but more are needed to start the ministry. If you would like additional information on Project Rachel and what the volunteer positions entail, please contact Ken Bresnan at kbresnan@catholiccharitiesdm.org. You can also see Project Rachel’s website HERE.

Pro-Life Pope Francis

From Priests for Life: “On the morning of April 11, 2014, the Holy Father received 470 members of the Italian Movement for Life. Here is an excerpt of his address:

“Human life is sacred and inviolable…. Every civil right is based on the recognition of the first, fundamental right, the right to life, which is not subject to any condition, of a qualitative, economic, and certainly not of an ideological nature… Therefore, it is necessary to reaffirm our solid opposition to any direct offence against life, especially when innocent and defenseless, and the unborn child in its mother’s womb is the quintessence of innocence. Let us remember the words of the Vatican Council II: ‘Therefore from the moment of its conception life must be guarded with the greatest care while abortion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes’. …”
