Ruth Harbor Banquet – November 12th

On Thursday, November 12th, Ruth Harbor will be hosting their annual banquet at the Embassy Suites Downtown (101 E Locust Street, Des Moines) in the Grand Ballroom. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the dinner and program will go from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

Ruth Harbor is a special home where young women who are forced out of their homes when they find themselves pregnant can come to stay and have the support they and their babies need. Loving volunteers help them to learn parenting skills or to walk through the adoption process. To learn more about their life-saving program, see a short video HERE on what they do. Their motto is “making a difference… two lives at a time.”

The banquet’s guest speaker, back by popular demand, is comedian Mike Williams. “Mike has recorded 14 CDs, 4 DVDS, and written numerous books. Nationally-known speaker and writer, he’s heard daily on SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s Laugh USA channel. Mike came to popularity as a pro-life speaker after Focus on the Family brought his personal story of his own adoption and his son’s rescue and subsequent adoption to the national spotlight.”

Generous donors have covered the cost of the banquet so all donations from the evening will directly benefit Ruth Harbor’s ministry to young women. There is no specific cost, but an opportunity to give a financial gift will be extended.

To attend, please RSVP by Monday, November 9th. Click HERE to register.

Legislative Update

– Texas and Ohio have joined the states which are defunding Planned Parenthood

– According to LifeSite News, “The House of Representatives will vote on Friday [October 23rd] on a bill that will use the reconciliation process to approve legislation to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

After the House approved a previous defunding measure, Senate Democrats defeated the bill.” The House will now try a different legal technique to defund Planned Parenthood.

Pro-Life Pope Francis

According to the Priests for Life September-October newsletter:

“The encyclical of Pope Francis entitled ‘Laudato Si,’ issued in June of 2015, contains many themes pertaining to the pro-life message. Note, in particular, the following paragraphs:

117. … When we fail to acknowledge as part of reality the worth of a poor person, a human embryo, a person with disabilities – to offer just a few examples – it becomes difficult to hear the cry of nature itself; everything is connected.

120. Since everything is interrelated, concern for the protection of nature is also incompatible with the justification of abortion. How can we genuinely teach the importance of concern for other vulnerable beings, however troublesome or inconvenient they may be, if we fail to protect a human embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable and creates difficulties? If personal and social sensitivity towards the acceptance of the new life is lost, then other forms of acceptance that are valuable for society also wither away.
