FREE Showing of Mary’s Meal “Generation Hope” Movie – June 18th

I don’t usually have room to include all of the pro-life events in the poverty area, but this is one I know about and this month there is room 🙂  Mary’s Meals is an amazing organization, and I hope you and your family are able to come!

On Saturday, June 18th, at 10 am there will be a FREE showing of the new Mary’s Meals documentary “Generation Hope.” The free showing will be held in the St. Theresa Church Parish Hall (1230 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, 50311). Come have some snacks and watch this 30-minute, inspirational movie.

Mary’s Meals is a global nonprofit that sets up school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities. Generation Hope is the new documentary movie which shows the extraordinary difference receiving a daily meal in school can make in the lives of children. This uplifting film introduces us to the group of young people who, having received Mary’s Meals, have broken the cycle of poverty and gone on to further education or paid employment.

There will be an opportunity to support the work of Mary’s Meals or give a freewill donation for the snacks. Feel free to invite others. Hope to see you there!

Iowa Court Rules Unborn Children Should Have the Same Rights as Born Children

“The Iowa Supreme Court hesitantly admitted last week that unborn children should have the same rights as born children in cases involving a parent’s wrongful death, World Magazine reports.

The high court handed down the decision on May 6, ruling that a little girl who was still in the womb when her father died can be awarded damages for wrongful loss of parental companionship, according to the report.”

New Iowa Law Protects Women & Children

From Iowans for LIFE:

“Iowans for LIFE proudly participated in Governor Branstad’s signing of HF 2386. This law allows victims of rape who become pregnant and choose life for their child to terminate their rapists’ parental rights. This helps to eliminate situations in which a rapist will use their parental rights as leverage to threaten for custody or visitation rights for the child. At Iowans for LIFE, we strive to protect both mother and child.”

Also, according to Iowans for LIFE, Governor Brandstad once again proclaimed that April is Abortion Recovery month. Thank you to all of the groups who assist women who need hope and healing.

Project Rachel

Speaking of groups who help post-abortive women, Project Rachel is a post-abortive healing resource for both women and men affected by abortion.

Catholic Charities now offers support through Project Rachel for men and women who are struggling with the effects of past abortions. Trained staff are available to provide compassionate counseling and confidential referrals to licensed therapists, support groups, and local priests trained in post-abortion counseling and sacramental Reconciliation if needed.

As pro-life people who really care about women and their babies, I recommend putting this phone number and/or e-mail in your phone, so you have it available in case you run into anyone who it could help. The Project Rachel phone will be checked daily. I believe it is a land-line phone, so make sure anyone who needs it knows that texting will not work.

If you or someone you know needs to contact Project Rachel, you can call 515-393-5230 OR e-mail

Iowa Right to Life Update

From Iowa Right to Life:

“A few months ago, through our friends in SW Iowa, we became aware of a $5 million federal grant Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has secured. This is for the so-called ‘The President’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative.’ This grant targets children from Kindergarten-12th grade in the following counties: Woodbury, Pottawattamie, Mills and Page Counties in Iowa and Dakota and Douglas Counties in Nebraska… We will continue to support in every way possible the targeted cities, Shenandoah, Clarinda, Stanton and beyond.”

Please pray for the people in the targeted areas as well as Iowa Right to Life’s efforts to help.

Iowa Right to Life Final Iowa Legislative Report

“This year the Iowa House of Representatives passed a Health and Human Services budget bill with language that would have effectively defunded Planned Parenthood.” However, the Democrat-controlled Senate took this language out of the bill. The bill went to a conference committee, but the final bill “did not include defunding the abortion industry.”

Iowa Right to Life is “disappointed that the Senate refused to end the taxpayer funding of abortion providers in the State of Iowa.” They say it makes more sense to send family planning dollars to Federally Qualified Health Centers “since they have exponentially more locations and provide actual medical care without a history of fraud and abuse.”

However there is some progress since the Iowa House and Senate have agreed to double the adoption tax credit from $2,500 to $5,000. This is a great way to support and encourage adoptions!

Supreme Court Supports Little Sisters of the Poor!

“In a surprise move Monday, the Supreme Court punted on the case and, in a unanimous ruling, essentially told the lower courts to find a way to accommodate the Little Sisters so their conscience rights would not be violated. The Supreme Court sent the case back to lower courts to examine an alternative accommodation to the mandate.

The justices instructed the lower court to find tweaks in the HHS mandate to eliminate any faith-based concerns ‘while still ensuring that the affected women receive contraceptive coverage seamlessly.’”

Thanks for the prayers for them, but it’s not over yet. Keep them up!

Petition to Stop the Global UN Tax

From C-Fam:

At the UN there is currently talk of a Global UN Tax. “The reason a UN Global Tax on all international financial transactions would be a bad idea is that it would create a totally independent revenue stream for the UN.” They mention this money would be used to continue to try to spread abortion on demand and undermine the traditional family.

“The UN is now funded by voluntary contributions from governments. They [governments] can always pull their funding, like the US did when the US pulled out of UNESCO for several years. A UN Global Tax would have no government oversight. The Global UN Tax must be stopped.”

If you haven’t already, please sign the petition against a global UN tax. Click HERE to sign the petition.

Prayers for Election

Pray for the presidential election coming up! Soon presidential nominees will be chosen, and a lot hangs in the balance, including the judge that will be added to the Supreme Court.

Pro-Life Pope Francis

“Pope Francis once again proves himself to be a powerful pro-life voice with his latest apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia, Latin for the ‘Joy of Love.’

The Holy Father states,

‘Euthanasia and assisted suicide are serious threats to families worldwide…The Church, while firmly opposing these practices, feels the need to assist families who take care of their elderly and infirm members.’”
