Advent-Prepare for His coming

Advent Prayer

images

God of Life,
We rejoice in the promise of your coming.

You have sent your Son, born in Bethlehem.
He is the Prince of Peace, and
The one in whose name all oppression shall cease.

May we welcome his coming each day
And prepare for his coming at the end of time.
May we build a culture that welcomes him
By welcoming every child, born and unborn.

We pray through the same Christ our Lord. Amen

new-years-reflection-9-daysLiving out Christmas in the New Year How do we live out the message of Christmas in the New Year, rather than pack it away with the ornaments? Each year the Octave Day of Christmas falls on the first day of the New Year, on which we also celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. Her open heart and courageous “yes” to God show us how to live year-round—with hearts open to the Lord, following where He leads. We are called to place our trust in Him, to enter compassionately into the suffering of others, and to love one another as Christ loves us. Like Our Blessed Mother welcomed Jesus, we are called to cherish and protect the gift of human life, at every stage and in every circumstance. One way to live out the message of Christmas and follow Our Lady’s example is to join 9 Days for Life, a digital pilgrimage of prayer and charitable action. The U.S. Catholic bishops invite you to join thousands of Catholics nationwide from Thursday, January 18 – Friday, January 26. Join today at http://www.9daysforlife.com

Draft of New HHS Strategic Plan Says Life Begins ‘at Conception’

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ proposed five-year strategic plan includes language stating that human life begins at the moment of conception.

sperm_egg_conception_fb

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a draft of its new strategic plan for 2018-2022, and with the addition of a few small words, it’s clear that there is a major change.
Formerly, the document stated the following in its introductory information:
HHS accomplishes its mission through programs and initiatives that cover a wide spectrum of activities, serving Americans at every stage of life.
The new edition now states this:
HHS accomplishes its mission through programs and initiatives that cover a wide spectrum of activities, serving and protecting Americans at every stage of life, beginning at conception.

The change might be five little words, but its meaning is deep. It signifies that at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services knows and accepts the truth, that life begins at conception (fertilization). Pro-life activists have said it for decades, scientists have proved it, and abortion supporters have denied and flat-out ignored it, but it’s true: life begins the moment a new human life is created – at fertilization. HHS is committed to protecting those lives.
READ: Science confirms that human life begins at fertilization
In addition to this change, HHS’ first strategic goal is to “Reform, Strengthen, and Modernize the Nation’s Health Care.” In the introductory paragraph, it is made clear that there is a mission to improve health care in the United States for all Americans, including those still in the womb. It states:
HHS is dedicated to reforming, strengthening, and modernizing the Nation’s health care system. By promoting greater affordability and balancing spending, strengthening health care quality and patient safety, improving access and expanding choices, and investing in the health care workforce, HHS seeks to improve health care outcomes for people we serve. While we may refer to the people we serve as beneficiaries, enrollees, patients, or consumers, our ultimate goal is to improve healthcare outcomes for all people, including the unborn, across healthcare settings.

Another addition is noticeable in the third strategic goal, which states that the HHS works to “Strengthen the Economic and Social Well-Being of Americans across the Lifespan.” HHS clearly states that not only does life begin at conception, but it should end at “natural death”:
A core component of the HHS mission is our dedication to serve all Americans from conception to natural death, but especially those individuals and populations facing or at high risk for economic and social well-being challenges, through effective human services.
The changes are welcome moves for those who advocate for the protection of preborn humans in a country where preborn eagles currently have more rights. It’s a small step, but it is a step in the right direction, acknowledging that life exists inside the womb.
READ: Scientists say life begins at conception with a burst of fluorescence
While former HHS Secretary Tom Price recently resigned from his position, pro-life Teresa Manning serves as deputy assistant secretary for population affairs, overseeing the federal funding for family planning programs, and Charmaine Yoest, former president of Americans United for Life, serves as assistant secretary of public affairs.

Senate votes to confirm Amy Barrett to 7th Circuit Court of Appeals

Last month’s blog update, we shared with you the Senate Judiciary Committee’s questioning of Amy Barrett, a Notre Dame law professor nominated for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Senator Feinstein’s (“The dogma lives loudly within you and that’s a concern”) and Senator Durbin’s (“Do you consider yourself an Orthodox Catholic?”) questioning of Amy Barrett’s religious beliefs, specifically on pro-life issues, was called by many a religious litmus test and unconstitutional.

On 10/31/17, the Senate voted to confirm Amy Barrett’s appointment to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Spiritual Adoption MONTH 2 Developing Baby

“I’m dancing!” Your baby is making progress developing all of her external features and internal organs. Her brain is functioning at 40 days. Her mother can hear her heartbeat now on an ultrasonic stethoscope. Baby teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks. The central nervous system is functioning and 40 muscle sets begin their first exercises. From this moment, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines her body. But everything she needs to survive after birth is already present by the end of the eighth week. She is now called a “fetus,” a Latin word meaning “little one.” Ultrasound reveals that this little one can now spring, flip and jump her first dance steps!

Please join us for Life Chain, Sunday, October 1, 2-3:30 PM-Merle Hay and University

Annual Life Chain Please join St. Theresa parishioners Sunday, October 1, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm along Merle Hay Road in the peaceful and prayerful prolife witness that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to natural death. We quietly stand to remember the more than 59 million lives lost to abortion, and we pray for our nation and for people in crisis situations. Life Chain will happen rain or shine. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please email Rachel at rdowney727@gmail.com

Life Chain 2017 Follow-Up:

Life Chain was incredibly successful this year. Everything went smoothly with St Theresa being the sign pick up/drop off location again—we had over 230 people attend! We welcomed people from Walnut Creek Church, who bolstered our numbers so that we filled Merle Hay in front of St Theresa and stretched over to University along St Theresa west parking lot. We are particularly thankful to see so many young people and families participate. A group of young women sang beautiful hymns through much of the time that made this a very uplifting setting for all.

St Theresa Pro Life committee members brought cookies to feed this large number after Life Chain was over. The larger the number of people, the more impact Life Chain has. We pray that God had the right people drive by at the right time for encouragement, and we know that everyone’s presence and prayers were effective 🙂

Singing angels kept our spirits high!

We also heard from Charlotte Pettit, who attended Life Chain. She shared with us that a group of Pro Life people meet every Saturday morning in front of Planned Parenthood, 1000 E Army Post Road, at 10am. They pray all four mysterious of the rosary. Also the 1st Saturday of the month is when the students in high school come to do their commitment. All are encouraged to come and pray for Pro Life intentions.

Iowa Rules 72-hour Waiting Period Legal

Iowa received a big win today with the ruling of Judge Farrell stating the 72-hour waiting period is legal. Earlier this year Planned Parenthood and the ACLU challenged a 72-hour waiting period which passed into law along with the 20-week abortion ban and a requirement to offer women a visual of her ultrasound. Planned Parenthood was able to postpone the 72-hour waiting period from going into effect by calling the law unconstitutional. They stated it caused an “undue burden” on the mother and was not medically necessary.
Polk County Judge, however, has ruled the law constitutional. The Des Moines Register reported today Iowa Judge Jeffrey Farrell refused to block the law. “The undue burden standard has been criticized, but it fairly balances the two competing interests of a woman’s right to choose an abortion versus the public’s interest in potential life,” he wrote. “The evidence at trial focused on the hardships women face when dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, but the public’s interest in potential life is an interest that cannot be denied under the law. Both of these interests are important.”
The 20-week abortion ban which states an abortion cannot be performed on a child after 20-weeks, also includes a requirement for women to have two doctor visits before getting an abortion, an option for the mother to view her ultrasound and the 72-hour waiting period. There is an exception to this law if the mother’s life is at risk.
This law takes not only the mother into consideration, but also the life of the child who must also be considered.

MONTH 1 “My heart is beating!”

Your spiritually adopted baby has been quite active over the past month. Already your baby is 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Your baby has developed the foundations of his brain, spinal cord, and nervous system by the 20th day. His heart began to beat on the 21st day, pumping blood through its own circulatory system and the blood type can be different from his mother’s. Your baby is most vulnerable during the next month of being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of his mother to give him the most precious gift of all – – the gift of life

As we look forward to our fall Banquets, I want to share the exciting news that our speakers this year are Al and Lisa Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame.
